Remanufacturing of a Chopper Gearbox for the Steel Industry | | A client in the steel industry came to us for a project that required experienced machinists, certified welders, and rebuild technicians. This scrap chopper gearbox was in serious need of repair and we were capable of providing the precision work that was needed. We started with CNC machining to establish keyway location, and to machine both gears. We also needed to fabricate sheet metal to replace damaged areas. To ensure proper backlash settings, we fabricated and machined a turntable fixture. The reassembly process included changing the line on the gearing, installing a helical drive and anti-backlash gear, and shimming the anti-backlash gear. Once assembled and tested to monitor heat and fit, the 48" high x 48" wide x 36" deep unit was re-installed at the clients facility. We completed this project in the 4-5 day turnaround time specified and worked to tightest tolerances of 0.0005" 0.001" for backlash. Our skilled and knowledgeable staff is ready to take on any remanufacturing project no matter the size or difficulty.
